I am still beyond impressed in what my K students are able to demonstrate independently during literacy center time. Our literacy centers make up most of our morning at school and our literacy instruction.
Math: We finish learning about identify shapes, and move on to looking at shape attributes such as number of lines, corners, and composing and creating shapes. At the end of the week we will try our first math assessment. This will be a paper and pencil assessment of what shapes the students can identify.
Literacy: In our whole group literacy time we will learn about choosing books by topic, and telling what a book is about by it's cover. In independent centers students will continue to practice work on writing, read to self, word work, listen to reading, and Raz kids app. I have added play doh letter building to our word work station! The kids are going to love it!
Phonics: This week we start to sort letters by their parts such as straight lines, circles, and curved lines. We will start to learn that these letters have names and that they make up words. We also will keep practicing our whole group alphabet chart letter naming and letter sound practice.
Writing: We will continue with creating our names day books until all students have had the opportunity to have their own Names Day! Each child in the classroom writes their friends name and draws a picture of them. They build their fine motor skills and learn about writing time expectations.
Its going to be a great week! Please contact me with any questions you have!
